In 1996, God gave the, at that time, four YWAM Dan Shui missionaries this vision; friendship evangelism through a coffee bar, a popular hang out for young Taiwanese. God truly answered and moved in the whole process: whether it was finances, furniture or people to help. Through the four staff in Dan Shui, an outreach team from the USA and an unbeliever, "The Rock" was born. Free drinks, different kinds of Christian music and a comfortable environment for chatting and making new friends are offered. The best friend we eagerly want to introduce is Jesus. Overseas and local outreach teams are welcomed on a regular basis.
Why "The Rock"?
"Why is everything free?"a question asked by many people with wide-opened eyes. Looking back, we know nothing in "The Rock" belongs to us, but through God's provision and help we can accomplish the vision He gave us; making Him known. "The Rock" is His place, a place to share His love, His word and His heart. His love is unconditional, freely available for everyone. His word is true, free for everyone. His heart is full of mercy and compassion and free for everyone. That's why we have "The Rock" and everything free of charge. We really want "The Rock" to be a light to the lost.
"The Rock" today
"The Rock" is located in the busiest street of Dan Shui, and although the rent is not cheap, it has been there since 1996. At present we have about 30 staff in Dan Shui. Most of us are involved in different ministries, like SBS, DTS and focusing on learning Chinese, but "The Rock" is the one place where each of our staff is involved. We run an English class in "The Rock" for those interested in learning American English. You'll find many friendly people interested in making friends with you. We run special programs tailored for the holidays, certain groups of people or events. On a regular basis outreach teams from other countries come to help, which offers a great opportunity to practice English and learn about other's culture. "The Rock" is a great place for every Christian to be on the front line, reaching the lost.
