How the Rock Church Was Born
This church was birthed out of the ministry at The Rock coffee bar. We were seeing people come to the Lord but they seemed unable to plug into the local churches. We had offered other churches the options of planting a church in our coffee bar or just taking the names of people coming to the Lord and following up on them.
Over a couple of years time there just was no interest. We also saw that no one had a vision for evangelism or missions. After a lot of prayer we decided to put our SBS on hold for a year and a group of our staff from the SBS moved to the area directly around The Rock. We began doing evangelism and activities outside of The Rock as well as within.
Within a short time a cell church was birthed. We followed after the principles of the cell church model, but after a time felt that a house church method more common in mainland China would be more effective. This is what we are presently using today.
The Rock Church Today
Because we work with a lot of university students we see people graduate and move on, but it is exciting to see how they have got involved in other ministries in the places they have moved back to.
Right now we have around 35 people regularly meeting each week for our services. With everyone included there are about 50 people, not including those who have moved on.
